Life Lessons and Divine Appointments

Recently I found myself in a sobering yet encouraging situation. While at an event with City-County Councillors, the discussion moved to helping our community press forward and rebuild relationships. Each of us was asked what we could personally do to help. I cannot remember how I responded, but I do remember the response of the Councillor sitting next to me. While being smacked in the arm, I was prompted, "You are not going to say 'pray'? You tell me every day that you are praying for me; you are teaching me to pray; and you did not say pray!" Although it was good-natured teasing, it is a lesson I will not soon forget: prayers have a tremendous impact upon our public servants, and always practice what you preach! (And, for the record, I then commented that our city needs prayer to a hearty AMEN in the room!)

At the City-County Building, God has opened doors into new departments. While showing guests around the building, we came upon a prayer time on the Observation Floor. Months of visits and knocking on doors sometimes appeared to yield little fruit; then, I "happened upon" a divine appointment! Contacts have yielded more contacts, and the ministry has continued to expand in recognition and influence. After introductions, these individuals wept as they learned of the ministry of prayer to their building. It had been a difficult time in their personal lives, and news of Public Servants' Prayer was a God-send.

Many in public service feel overlooked and unappreciated. They covet the one thing that we offer: prayer. I stand amazed at what God has done in the past several months, and I am grateful for life lessons and divine appointments.
