Summer 2025

Dear Friends and Supporters, One legislator said, as many do, “This is the fullest part-time job I’ve ever had!” Our Indiana legislature is considered part-time because they do not meet year-round as our federal legislators do. Rather, they meet for the first 3-4 months of each year for what is known as the Legislative Session. And yet, constituents’ needs and problems are not "part-time"; they are present all year long. Another legislator said she sees her year as divided into three seasons: “session, parades, and committees.” For our PSP team, summer is the time to catch our breath, debrief the details of session, get things in order, continue weekly Bible studies/prayer meetings in the Statehouse, travel to train/teach, and start planning for next session. Capitol Ladies' Bible Study ~ Fellowship!

Our Capitol Ladies’ Bible Study held our annual summer picnic this past month. We always enjoy food, fellowship, and games. Since our weekly Bible study is squeezed into the ladies' work lunch hour, there is precious little time for fellowship, so we plan get-togethers especially for that. Our “First Monday Lunch" is another way we find time to fellowship and pray for each other. Special Prayer Request: One of our ladies has a college student daughter seriously battling bladder and kidney issues. She is in much pain and was recently on the edge of sepsis. We praise the Lord that the infection has been going down, but please join us in praying for full healing for Annalise.

ALEC ~ American Legislative Exchange Council

I am often honored with requests to open events in prayer. In July, I was given the privilege of providing the morning devotional and prayer for ALEC, a gathering of a few thousand legislators from all across the United States. This year, the event was held right here in Indianapolis. Not only was it an honor and privilege to share God's word to leaders from across the nation, but it was a unique opportunity to meet some amazing people and hear interesting speakers into the bargain. The things I get to do! Praise the Lord!

India ~ Online Bible Study

I teach a weekly online Bible study for pastors’ wives in India, often from the Statehouse chapel. We are going through the book of Joshua, just as my Capitol Ladies did earlier this year. There are challenges to teaching online through an interpreter, but the ladies are growing in their knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures and the Savior. They are also learning to pray for their own national and local leaders as prompted by each lesson. (The Bible speaks extensively about leaders and leadership.) My goal is to train and launch these women to write and teach their own Bible studies as there are few study resources available in their language.

My summers are times of intense writing projects. I just completed the study guide for our next Bible study, "Thy Kingdom Come," The Reign of King David (2 Samuel). Jessica is, as always, editing and formatting the manuscript. This is her big, annual summer project! We start this study in September. Please Pray!

Please take a moment now to pray for the following: Praise God for what He has done! Pray for your elected leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-4). Pray for my granddaughter Quinn, our heart transplant girl, that post-lymphoma checks will be good and for the resolution of breathing issues after her winter bout with pneumonia. Pray for deepening, Gospel-centered relationships with leaders and staff. Pray for my India ladies. Pray for their growth in the Lord and in His Word. Pray for their churches, especially as they are experiencing severe flooding and the loss of financial support. Pray for Annalise. Pray for my stamina and strength.
