“Weep With Those Who Weep”
As COVID19 restrictions begin to lift people are anxious to get back to normal, as though “normal” was perfection, idyllic and problem-free. But as we emerge we find, not freedom, but the resistant presence of an older virus that plagues this nation, just as deadly, that has killed thousands, may have yet to crest, has been here for decades if not centuries, has periodic surges, and for which no cure has been found. You know its name.
The Scriptures describe the symptoms this way:
“Judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off; for truth is fallen in the street and equity cannot enter. Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and was displeased that there was no judgment. And He saw that there was no man and wondered that there was no intercessor…”
“Death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.”
We live, not in a problem-free world, but a broken one, full of broken and hurting people, plagued by the viruses of injustice and inequity. Today’s heartbreaks remind us of just how divided and broken we are. “Weep with those who weep”, say the Scriptures, and someone has wisely added, “Don’t judge why they weep.”
Leaders are at a loss. The problem seems absolutely overwhelming. But there is a cure for this virus. There is One that has a true and lasting cure, and His name is Jesus. He is the Man of Sorrows acquainted with grief. He wept with those who weep. He, the Creator of justice, was Himself denied justice. He was killed by those who should have protected Him. His very last breath is recorded… but He breathed again. And in so doing conquered death, the final enemy. The Cross is as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago. In Jesus we find hope and healing, and eternal life. Jesus is our Advocate, our Reconciler, our Restorer, our Healer, and our Example. Turn to Him.
A time coming, maybe today! when the Lord Jesus Christ will return and establish true justice and judgment throughout the earth. But till that day, would you be that intercessor that the Lord is looking for? Would you weep with those who weep and not judge why they weep? Would you pray for our leaders to have the wisdom they so desperately seek? Would you pray for the Lord to flood this nation with His peace? Would you pray that there will be listening and understanding on all sides? Would you pray for the repentance and forgiveness, so desperately needed, to flow? Remember, with God, nothing shall be impossible.
Remember, too, prayer is our greatest weapon in the battle against this virus.
“Then you will be called the repairer of the breach…”
Mankind is our business.
