Lydia Hernandez was born in Texas. Hernandez earned a bachelor's degree in political science and government from Baylor University in 1991. Her career experience includes working as a legal assistant with Federal Immigration Counselors, an executive manager with Arizona Habitat for Humanity, the executive director of the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs, and a project specialist and management recruitment for the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity with former Governor Jane Hull's Administration. Hernandez has served on the Hispanic Caucus Board of the National School Boards Association.
