Vivian Watts was born in Detroit, Michigan. Watts earned her B.A. in English at the University of Michigan in 1962. Before retiring, she worked as executive director of Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates, a consultant for the United States Advisory Committee of Intergovernmental Relations, and as an author/researcher for the United States Department of Justice Grant.
