Casey Crabtree is a member of the South Dakota State Senate, representing District 8. He assumed office on June 19, 2020. His current term ends on January 12, 2027. Crabtree is running for re-election to the South Dakota State Senate to represent District 8. He declared candidacy for the Republican primary scheduled on June 2, 2026. Crabtree also ran for election to the U.S. House to represent South Dakota's At-Large Congressional District. He will not appear on the ballot for the Republican primary on June 2, 2026. Senate Republicans elected Crabtree state Senate majority leader on November 11, 2022, effective January 10, 2023. Crabtree also served as majority whip during the 2021-2022 legislative session. He served in this capacity until January 15, 2025. Crabtree was born in Arlington, South Dakota. He received a bachelor's degree from Northern State University in 2005. Crabtree's professional experience included working in business development and management. As of October 2024, Crabtree was the director of economic development for Heartland Energy in Madison, South Dakota. Governor Kristi Noem appointed Crabtree to the South Dakota State Senate on June 19, 2020, to replace Jordan Youngberg following his resignation. Crabtree won election later that year, and ran uncontested in every general election from 2020 to 2024. He served as chair of the Senate Commerce and Energy Committee during the 2021-2022 legislative session and as chair of the Senate State Affairs Committee during the 2023-2024 legislative session.
