Sanjay Tailor is a judge for the 1st District of the Illinois Supreme Court. He assumed office on January 30, 2026. His current term ends on December 4, 2028. Tailor ran for election for the 9th Subcircuit judge of the Cook County Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022. The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Tailor to the Illinois Supreme Court 1st District on January 12, 2026, to replace Mary Jane Theis. The Illinois Supreme Court assigned Tailor to the Illinois 1st District Appellate Court on September 14, 2022, to replace Judge Daniel James Pierce. The assignment was effective October 3, 2022, and will stay in effect until further order of the court. Tailor served as an associate judge on the Cook Judicial Circuit Court from 2003 to 2021. He was first appointed to the court in April 2003.
