Josh Shapiro is the Governor of Pennsylvania. He assumed office on January 17, 2023. His current term ends on January 19, 2027. On January 8, 2026, Shapiro announced he would seek re-election as governor in 2026. In a statement, Shapiro said: "Even with a divided state legislature — together — we’ve gotten a whole lot done on issues that have been stuck for decades. But there’s always more to do — more people to help, more Pennsylvanians to protect, more bridges to build." Shapiro received a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and a J.D. from Georgetown University. Before running for office, Shapiro was a senior foreign policy advisor to U.S. Sen. Robert Torricelli, senior legislative assistant to U.S. Rep Peter Deutsch, chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Joseph Hoeffel, and attorney for Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP. Shapiro was elected to represent District 153 in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2004, and served in the House from 2005-2011. In 2011, Shapiro won election to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and served on the commission from 2012-2017 as chairman, the first time in over a century that Democrats controlled the commission.
