Walker ran in a special election to the Illinois State Senate to represent District 27. He won in the special general election on November 5, 2024. Walker also ran for re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives to represent District 53. He did not appear on the ballot for the general election on November 5, 2024. In May 2024, the Democratic committeemen of the townships in the 27th District appointed Walker to the Illinois State Senate, representing District 27.
