Matt Woods earned an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences from Bevill State Community College in 2002 and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Auburn University in 2004. Woods' career experience includes working as the manager of Jasper Auto Sales. He has served on the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.
