George Rauscher moved to Alaska in the late 1970s and began his career in the oil fields. When the industry slowed in the mid-1980s, he entered a carpenter apprenticeship and later founded his own construction business in 1992, splitting time between summer contracts and winter oil field work. In 2006, he was elected to the Sutton Community Council, later serving as its president. Beyond public service, Rauscher has dedicated time to missionary work abroad in Haiti, Sumatra, Jakarta, and Russia, as well as locally with Franklin Graham. Elected to the Alaska State House in 2017, Rauscher spent his first six years in the minority yet succeeded in passing two bills during his first session. Over nine years of service, he has authored and passed nine bills, and coauthored, amended, or guided many others. He has served on the House Special Committee on Energy, Resources, and Military & Veterans Affairs, chairing the Energy Committee and serving as Vice Chair of Resources from 2022 to 2024. He also served as Majority Whip. He was appointed to the State Senate on November 28, 2025, and now serves on Senate Resources, Senate Transportation and Joint Armed Services.
