
Mikie Sherrill is the Governor of New Jersey. She assumed office on January 20, 2026. Her current term ends on January 15, 2030. On Nov. 4, 2025, Sherrill was elected governor of New Jersey, defeating Jack Ciattarelli 56% to 43% in the general election. The general election marked the first time since 1961 that New Jersey voters elected a member of the same party for three consecutive gubernatorial terms. In her victory speech, Sherrill said, "I'm going to hold government accountable, balancing individual liberty with collective responsibility, ensuring people are safe, healthy, educated, and free to pursue their dreams. [..] Good government doesn't just manage problems, it solves them." Sherrill was born in 1972 in Alexandria, Virginia. During her childhood, Sherrill's grandfather would tell her stories of his experience as a bomber pilot during World War II. According to Sherrill, these stories inspired her to join the military. After receiving a bachelor's degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1994, she began serving in the U.S. Navy as a helicopter pilot. During her tenure, Sherrill flew missions in Europe and the Middle East.
