State Rep. Luke Meerman is a lifelong resident of the 89th House District and was first elected to the Michigan House in November 2018. He is a small business owner and fifth-generation dairy farmer. He previously served as a Polkton Township trustee, first elected in 2012. Luke is active with the Ottawa County Farm Bureau, serving as a board member from 2007 to 2013 and vice president from 2010 to 2013. During his second term as state representative, Rep. Meerman served as chairman of the bipartisan School Safety Task Force, working closely with law enforcement, school administrators, mental health professionals and parents to craft legislation to better protect kids from harm while they are at school. Luke and his wife have five children. They have led a home foster care program and have fostered 15 children in their home. The Meermans have also hosted six international students in their home, sharing American culture and values with young people from all over the world.
