Steve Bennett was born in the Midwest. Bennett earned a degree in economics from Brown University. Bennett's career experience includes working as a high school economics and American history teacher. Bennett was elected to the Ventura City Council in 1993 and served until 1997. He was also elected to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, serving from 2000 to 2020.
