Guadalupe Chavira Contreras, also known as Lupe or Lupito, was raised in Cashion, Arizona. Growing up, he was involved in baseball, wrestling, and football. He attended Littleton Elementary School, Underdown Junior High, and Westview High School, where he was part of the first graduating class in 1993. Following graduation, he attended Estrella Mountain Community College and Glendale Community College in pursuit of a degree in Criminal Justice. During his high school years, he worked in fields picking onions and melons before working at Fry's and UPS. He later spent time working at several law offices, including a long tenure at Pomeroy & Associates. He has coached wrestling for more than ten years, ranging from kindergarten children to high school seniors. Since being elected as a State Representative, he has become an active member of NALEO, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
