
Senator Gary Stevens is a retired professor who has served in the Alaska State Senate since 2003 and previously served in the Alaska State House of Representatives from 2001 to 2003. He held the position of Senate Majority Leader starting in 2005 and served as Senate President. His professional career includes 25 years as a professor at the University of Alaska and five years as the general manager of Northern Processors. Stevens served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant, earning the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Medal. He has held numerous local government positions, including Mayor of the City of Kodiak and Mayor of the Kodiak Island Borough. He is a member of Rotary International and has served as a District 5010 Governor.
