Borris Miles

Senator · District 13
Texas

A lifelong resident of Houston, Senator Borris L. Miles is a successful businessman and developer, owning one of the largest insurance agencies in Texas. After serving four terms in the Texas House of Representatives, he was elected to the Texas Senate in 2016, where he represents District 13. In the Senate, Miles serves on several committees, including Health and Human Services, Criminal Justice, Nominations, Transportation, and Congressional Redistricting. A fighter for the people, Senator Miles’ legislative milestones include securing over $10 billion in federal funding to provide primary healthcare services to low-income Texans, passing legislation to give second chances to individuals by making it easier to seal their juvenile records, securing $44 million to create the Miles Ahead Scholars program to help underserved minority male youth the opportunity to go to college, creating economic development opportunity districts and strengthening the laws on group homes, protecting the most vulnerable like our seniors and people with disabilities who depend on these facilities. Senator Miles' active involvement in his community is a testament to his commitment and servant leadership. Miles spearheaded the Hip Hop 4 HIV Know Your Status Concert, designed to combat the rising HIV infection rates in African American communities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention later adopted this endeavor and took this event nationwide. Additionally, through his non-profit organization, the TexStars Foundation, he has awarded over 200 scholarships to support African American men in pursuing a college education and hosted his annual Turkey Giveaway for 20 years, providing essential support to communities in need.
