


Shelley Moore Capito is a member of the U.S. Senate from West Virginia. She assumed office on January 3, 2015. Her current term ends on January 3, 2027. Capito is running for re-election to the U.S. Senate to represent West Virginia. She is on the ballot in the Republican primary on May 12, 2026. Capito was first elected to the Senate in 2014, becoming the first female U.S. senator in the state's history. Prior to serving in the Senate, Capito was a member of the West Virginia House of Representatives from 1997 to 2001 and a member of the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2015.
