Maura Healey is the Governor of Massachusetts. She assumed office on January 5, 2023. Her current term ends on January 7, 2027. On February 7, 2025, Healey announced she would seek re-election in 2026. On a public radio show, she said: "We laid out in our inaugural address things that we wanted to do. We wanted to get after housing, and we wanted to get after transportation, we wanted to cut taxes, we wanted to make investments in education. And I feel like we've done all those things, and there's a heck of a lot more to do. And so I plan to run for reelection, because there's a lot more to do." Healey was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and grew up in New Hampshire. She received a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1992, where she played basketball before playing professionally in Europe. Healey received a J.D. from Northeastern University in 1998. She worked as a civil rights lawyer, including as chief of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division. Healey was first elected in 2022, defeating Geoff Diehl 64% to 35% and becoming the state's first Democratic governor since 2015. Healey's win also gave Democrats a trifecta in Massachusetts.
