Representative Darius K. Kila serves House District 44, representing Māʻili, Lualualei, Nānākuli, Honokai Hale, and Ko Olina. A lifelong resident of the Waiʻanae Coast, he carries forward the values of hard work, responsibility, and community care that define his home. Prior to his election, Representative Kila served as Community Liaison for Representative Stacelynn Eli and held leadership roles on the Nānākuli–Māʻili Neighborhood Board. In these roles, he strengthened community engagement, built lasting partnerships, and advanced family-focused initiatives that enhanced public safety and long-term community resilience. Elected to the State House in 2022, Representative Kila immediately began delivering results for the Leeward Coast. In his first year, he secured critical capital improvement project funding for Nānākuli schools and grant-in-aid support for community-based organizations. He also passed legislation funding an Alzheimer’s disease public health campaign, requiring candidates’ legal names to appear alongside ballot names in official documents and establishing a Native Hawaiian Intellectual Property Working Group. In 2024, following the devastating Maui wildfires, Representative Kila co-chaired the House Wildfire Prevention Working Group, which produced a comprehensive report identifying strengths, gaps, and priority reforms. He subsequently helped introduce legislation, signed into law by Governor Josh Green, reinstating the State Fire Marshal for the first time since 1970, significantly strengthening Hawaiʻi’s wildfire prevention and response capacity. In 2025, his third year in office and first as Chair of the House Committee on Transportation, Representative Kila helped pass 31 transportation-related measures improving infrastructure and public safety statewide. He also advanced legislation expanding mental health crisis intervention services on Oʻahu, working to strengthen animal welfare and roadway safety laws, modernizing Department of Transportation contracting authority, funding public health research on environmental impacts, and recognizing Hawaiʻi’s cultural heritage through the designation of Laulau Day.
