Shane Massey is a member of the South Carolina State Senate, representing District 25. He assumed office in 2007. His current term ends on November 13, 2028. Massey became the South Carolina state Senate majority leader on April 6, 2016. Massey was born in Greeneville, Tennessee, in 1975. He later moved to Edgefield, South Carolina, after his first year of High School. Massey received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Clemson University in 1997 and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 2000. Following law school, he began working as an attorney. As an attorney, Massey worked on cases related to civil litigation, insurance defense, divorce, and wills and estates. In 2007, Sen. Thomas Moore resigned from the South Carolina Senate after representing District 25 for 26 years. Massey won the 2007 special election to replace Moore after defeating William Clyburn Sr. by 138 votes. In 2008, Massey was elected to his first full term in the Senate after defeating Greg Anderson in the general election 54% to 46%. Of the five general elections Massey ran in from 2008 to 2024, he ran without major party opposition in three races.
