Bruce Starr is a diligent public servant, successful small business owner, and husband. Senator Starr is a lifelong Oregonian who grew up on a farm off SW River Road in Hillsboro. He and his 3 brothers were taught to love the Lord, work hard, and serve their community. A graduate of Hillsboro High School, Bruce spent his senior year in independent study so he could work on a political campaign for the U.S. Senate. He went on to attend Portland State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science. While in college, he worked as a legislative intern in the state senate. Bruce has spent over 20 years of his life in public service fighting for Conservative values. He first started in local positions in Washington County’s GOP Central Committee, Hillsboro precinct committee person, and Hillsboro City Council, then moved on to serve in the State House and Senate from 1999 to 2014. When he was first elected to the Senate in 2002, he was part of the first father son tandem in Oregon state history to serve together. During his tenure in the legislature, Bruce was the transportation expert – having chaired the Business and Transportation Committee during his time in the House and serving as Vice Chair during his time in the Senate. In his last 10 years working in the private sector, Bruce has continued to operate multiple small businesses ranging from political consulting to fence contracting work, and he recently co-founded a Christian preschool. Bruce and his wife moved to Dundee in 2020. He recently served as a Dundee City Councilor. Bruce and his wife are strong Christians.
