William C. Smith, Jr. was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. He served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2014 to 2016 and was appointed to the Maryland Senate on December 13, 2016. A veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves where he serves as an intelligence officer, Smith is also an attorney. He is a recipient of several awards, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Thurgood Marshall Award from William and Mary Law School. Throughout his career, he has held numerous public service roles, including serving as a White House appointee on the Homeland Security Advisory Council and various board positions with community organizations.
