Raised in Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint, Idaho. He served as a U.S. Navy submarine officer with 21 years of active and reserve service. He is the owner/operator of a heavy construction company and has served as a board member for the Northern Lights Electric Cooperative and the Idaho Consumer Owned Utilities Assoc.
