Richard Michael DeWine (also known as Mike) is the Governor of Ohio. He assumed office on January 14, 2019. His current term ends on January 11, 2027. DeWine received a bachelor's degree in education from Miami University of Ohio in 1969 and received a law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1972. Following his graduation, DeWine worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Greene County, Ohio, until 1976, when he was elected to serve as the county prosecutor. DeWine served in the Ohio State Senate from 1981 to 1982, at which point he was elected as a U.S. Representative for Ohio's 7th Congressional District. He served in Congress until 1991, following his election as lieutenant governor on a joint ticket with George Voinovich. DeWine resigned as lieutenant governor in 1994 after winning election to the U.S. Senate. DeWine was elected attorney general in 2010 and held the position until assuming office as governor in 2019. In 2018, DeWine defeated Richard Cordray 50% to 47% in the general election to serve as the 70th governor of Ohio. DeWine was re-elected in 2022, defeating Nan Whaley 62% to 37%. Ohio has had a Republican trifecta throughout all of DeWine's tenure as governor. As of DeWine's re-election in 2022, Republicans had held a trifecta in Ohio since 2010.
