Cameron Sexton is a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing District 25. He assumed office in 2010. His current term ends on November 3, 2026. On August 23, 2019, Sexton was elected as House speaker to replace Glen Casada after Casada resigned. Sexton was born on November 11, 1970, in Lake City, Tennessee. He received a degree in Public Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1994. Sexton worked at Cumberland County Bank where he worked in business development and on the bank's board of directors. Sexton was first elected in 2010, defeating Charles Ray Rains 67.2%-40%. He served as House Republican Caucus Chairman for the 111th General Assembly and as Majority Whip during the 108th General Assembly. Sexton was also a member of a number of House committees, including the Health and Calendar and Rules Committees. Sexton opposed accepting federal Medicaid expansion funds, instead supporting funding in the form of block grants. He sponsored legislation increasing penalties for certain crimes and requiring some offenders to serve their full prison sentence rather than being released on parole. In 2021, Sexton sponsored a bill making school board elections partisan, rather than nonpartisan. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he supported legislation that prohibited municipalities from establishing face mask or vaccine requirements.
