Cameron Henry is a member of the Louisiana State Senate, representing District 9. He assumed office on January 13, 2020. His current term ends on January 10, 2028. Henry was elected Louisiana Senate President in 2024. Henry earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Louisiana State University in 1997 and an M.B.A. in finance and management from Tulane University in 2004. While in graduate school, Henry worked as a legislative aide to then state Rep. Steve Scalise. Henry also worked as an adjunct professor at Delgado Community College. Henry represented District 82 in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2008 to 2020. During his time in the House, Henry chaired the House Appropriations committee. In 2015, Henry ran to be the Louisiana House speaker but withdrew when the race went to a runoff. After withdrawing his candidacy, Henry said, “We realized that there was a section of votes that were difficult for me to go get and this enabled members to comfortably vote for a Republican. It simply had to do with the fact that some members felt that I almost was a little too conservative for the body.” In 2019, Henry was unable to run for re-election in the House due to term limits and was elected to represent District 9 in the Louisiana Senate. He was re-elected in 2023. In 2024, Henry was unanimously elected to serve as Senate President. As president, Henry serves on the Revenue Estimating Conference, which determines how much state and federal revenue can be used on a state budget, as well as on the State Bond Commission, Interim Emergency Board, Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, Joint Capital Outlay, and Legislative Budgetary Control Council.
