
Ryan Spiegel was born on July 6, 1978, in Pikesville, Maryland. He graduated from Pikesville High School in 1996 and earned a B.A. in Journalism (Honors) from the University of Maryland in 2000, followed by a J.D. from Stanford University School of Law in 2003. He completed the University of Maryland Academy for Excellence in Local Governance as a Graduate Fellow between 2008 and 2011. Spiegel served on the Gaithersburg City Council from 2007 to 2023, including time as Council Vice President and as the "Dean" of the City Council. Throughout his career, he has served in numerous leadership roles with the Maryland Municipal League and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. He was appointed as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in July 2023. Professionally, he has worked as a senior associate at Winston & Strawn, LLP, a partner and practice group chair at the law firm of Paley Rothman, and as a partner at Thompson Hine, LLP.
