Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1961, Johnny Ray Salling graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1979. He served in the United States Army as a combat engineer from 1979 to 1981 and worked as a steelworker for LaFarge of North America. First elected to the Senate in 2014, he has been a member since 2015.
