Tate Reeves is the Governor of Mississippi. He assumed office on January 14, 2020. His current term ends on January 11, 2028. Before beginning his career in politics, Reeves worked in the finance sector. Reeves told the Delta Business Journal in 2019 that his early experience as an investment banker shaped his political views. "I also saw firsthand how government could help or hinder growth in a small business through regulations and restrictions. Seeing government and business intersect contributed to my belief that government doesn’t create jobs. It only creates an environment that helps people on Main Street create jobs for their community,” he said. Reeves was the first Republican elected as state treasurer in Mississippi history. He served in that position from 2004 to 2012, when he became lieutenant governor alongside Gov. Phil Bryant for two terms. He was elected governor in 2019 alongside Republican majorities in both chambers of the state legislature, creating a Republican trifecta. His 5.1% margin of victory in 2019 was the closest of his political career and the closest gubernatorial election in Mississippi since 1999. Reeves was re-elected in 2023 with 50.9% of the vote, defeating Democrat Brandon Presley
