Ray Newman was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Newman earned a B.A. in education from Providence College in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army and reached the rank of second lieutenant. Newman's career experience includes working as an air traffic controller and supervisor with the Federal Aviation Administration and a subject matter expert with MITRE Corp.
