Rep. Foncello was first elected to the 107th District, serving Brookfield, the Stony Hill section of Bethel and the Hawleyville neighborhood of Newtown, in 2022. In 1999, Marty was elected First Selectman of the Town of Brookfield, serving for two terms. During this tenure, he was called to active duty with the Army in Washington, DC, following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Following his tenure as First Selectman, Marty served as a Senior Intelligence Officer with the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis, working in New York City for over 14 years as a liaison to the NYPD, FDNY and Office of Emergency Management. Marty proudly served as an Army Officer for 28 years, retiring in 2002 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military career spanned the Vietnam era, the First Gulf War and the War on Terror, including service in the Active, Reserve, and National Guard components. He served as a Military Intelligence Officer in positions including Deputy G-2 of a National Guard Infantry Division, Commander of a Reserve MI Battalion, and Executive Officer of a Reserve MI Detachment. Concurrent with his military career, he taught Statistics and Business Decision Making as an adjunct faculty member at several local universities including Western Connecticut State University, founded and served as President of the Greenridge Tax District and Water Company, and served as a member of Brookfield’s Economic Development Commission. He has also served as a Little League coach, Scout Leader, President of the Brookfield Rotary Club, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of American Legion Post 202.
